10-12. 06 . 2016 Fire Season - An Ayurvedic Yoga retreat to balance the Pitta summer season!
Welcome to the creative, educational and interconnective yoga / ayurveda retreat taking place at the beautiful Sunahonlaita in Joensuu.
During the retreat we will unite the sister sciences of Ayurveda and Yoga. We will especially tailor our practices towards balancing the hot, sharp and acidic nature of Pitta.
No matter what your dosha (Ayurvedic constitution), you will be influenced by Pitta´s prevailing nature at this time of the year.
Our aim is to share practices that help us to both slow down and cool down during summer season:
- Yoga & pranayama for Pitta (cooling breathing, forward folds, heart openers, tree poses and moon salutations). Emphasis will be on slow movement.
- Marma points (pressure points) applied with medicated Ayurvedic oil.
- Vibrant & exquisite Ayurvedic food.
- Ayurvedic class about skin care for summer, including simple manufacture of herbal beauty products for personal usage, and application of products before sauna.
- Satsang moon night for community sharing.
- Connecting with nature by walking, exploring local plants and practicing yoga.
16/04/2016 Yin Yoga & Acupuncture
This class combines the stimulation of acupuncture or acupressure points during a yin yoga class. Students have the choice between acupuncture or acupressure. The first, small needles are used, the second, only pressure is applied to the points. In order to achieve of a prolonged effect, ear seeds (small sticky seeds) are applied to the ear and be apr left on the ear for many days for further stimulation. Your health concerns will be taken into account at the beginning of class to understand what are the best as the Safest points to stimulate.
Yin Yoga joins the insights gained by thousands of years of acupuncture practice to the wisdom of yoga. Yin yoga is the slow, deep practice of floor postures mostly That stretc h, stimulate and heal the joints of the hips and spine. Yin yoga is quiet, restful, deep, and inward-looking. One theory Is that the acupuncture meridians are located within the connective tissues of the body. Thus, any exercise such as yin yoga Which targets the connective tissues, can help with the flow of qi. Acupuncture seeks to free up the flow of qi by stimulating the meridians directly. By gently stimulating acupuncture meridians we believe That we are adding to the great benefits of yin yoga. Join us for a lovely afternoon of relaxation and wellness prolonged!
Class is taught in English by an Ayurvedic consultant, Justine Cederberg of PRASAD and Chinese Medical practitioner, Chantal Hellevig of Acupuncture Viiki.

We will discuss Finnish and Indian foods as “medicine,” as well how to improve digestion and increase immunity through simple Ayurvedic recipes and remedies. During the class, we will use a slow cooker, Ayurvedic spices, and organic ghee (clarified butter) to create a sattvic meal for everyone to enjoy. Home made pickles, chutney, yogurt and herbs will accompany the meal. The vegetarian meal is lactose and gluten free.
This workshop will cover the fundamental Ayurvedic principles, including the basic language and concepts connected to the healing system’s mind/body types. An overview of tools to achieve and maintain balance using those concepts through diet, lifestyle, yoga and more will also be introduced.
In Ayurveda, the 5,000-year-old traditional healing system of India, the natural state of the body is one of order and it uses the five elements (space, air, fire, water and earth), to create balance between the body, the mind and the soul. These elements come together in various ways to form different body types, personality traits, and tendencies for specific diseases. Dietary, lifestyle, age and environment also play a roll in our constitution. In this workshop, we will discuss how to understand your constitution, and how this information can help you to find your unique state of balanced health.
